The Rain in Spain …
It doesn’t often rain here. But when it does, it sure does!  Thirty-eight mm today so far. Good for the farmers, though …

Pinolere to La Florida to Las Cuevas
We caught the 345 GuaGua today to high above us where the pine forests begin. Then a walk down through the valley via Pinolere to La Florida and home. The leaves on the vines are growing remarkably quickly now given Teide is still covered in snow. Also, two thatched huts along the route today. Places to store the potato crops we saw flowering everywhere perhaps …?

Never on the Sabbath?
A coastal visit today. El Caleton – a small fishing hamlet 5 miles north east of us. There were about 15 wee boats pulled up on the shore. The sea was pretty rough today though. Also, I don’t think they fish on Sundays here …

Santa Semana
It is Santa Semana (Saint’s Week/Easter) here this week so lots of holidays, celebrations and church services going on. We got into the spirit by taking a “holiday” ourselves today and headed to the South West coast for some sun and a wee sip of sangria …

Tiempo de Fiesta!
Our Canarian neighbours just across the barranco are having a party tonight. The men were fixing a wall earlier but sounds like the vino has been flowing for a while now ….

Hill Run?
A (very!) steep climb up to Tamaide and Pino Alto yesterday. Small hamlets really, high above us. It’s avocados and vines up there – too high for bananas. Dad would have called it a “bitty hill run kind” (i.e. “hillbilly”), but stunning all the same. These are some of the plants and buildings along the way …

GuaGua to Santa Cruz
We visited the capital, Santa Cruz, by bus yesterday. A modern and cosmopolitan Edinburgh-size city (including the higher up La Laguna-the old town and Uni area). The public transport system is good and buses are called GuaGuas – pronounced –  waa waas – such a great word …

No – A Different Florida!
We walked to La Florida earlier – a wee place a few hundred meters above where we are (vines and tatties as opposed to bananas.) – via a “back road” from our house. This is one of the first guachinches (pron:wa-cheen-che I think!) on that road. They are eating and drinking places, largely unique to North Tenerife. Basically, a smallholding outhouse where they serve their own home-made food and home-produced vino at extremely low prices. V popular with locals but not renowned for their vegetariano options …

Celtic Spain
I was at a spin bike class this morning – mainly Spanish peeps. Some of the tracks were modern pipe and fiddle music. Said to J when I got back “it was very nice of them to play some Scottish stuff for me“. He goes “think you’ll find it was Galician folk music” …  #spoiledit  …

Madam Furiosa!
So, it was to be a simple blood test to check how her kidney disease is doing. So, off she went. We heard hissing and spitting at the other side of the door. Cleofe, veterinario-lady came back with her – ears back and glowering – and said “let’s leave it today, she’s a little nerviosa“. J said … by looks of her I’d say she’s more FURIOSA!

Back tomorrow for a wee sedation, this time …
