A Quick Tour of  Tamaimo …
Checking out the start of a future walk, we explored the hill town of Tamaimo today for the first time. The town is busy preparing for the final night of their annual festival of their patron saint, Santa Ana. There’s to be a huge paella and lots of singing and dancing – sounds good …

Unsuccessfully Seeking a Sea Breeze …
It was 28C with not a breath of wind when we set off on our short walk from Playa Paraiso to Callao Salvaje and back today, so not ideal walking weather. But with friends reporting temperatures of 41C in the hills and 33C on the south coast, we were thankful of small mercies …

Walk (44) Playa Paraiso-Callao Salvaje Return (Adeje)
This is an easy and pleasant coastal stroll. Most of the route is on paved surfaces. With the advent of the Hard Rock hotel and other luxury hotel developments, Playa Paraiso is finally shedding its tired image and can now actually boast a couple of small beaches, to live up to its name. The new beach bar and sandy beach at Callao Salvaje signal that this long-standing resort is also on an upward curve …

Walk (43) El Molledo-Los Quemados-Degollada del Roque Circular (Santiago del Teide)
A short but energetic walk on the southern side of the Teno Mountains near Santiago del Teide. Great views of the two stunningly beautiful barrancos that lie south of the Masca Gorge, to El Teide, and down to the coastal towns on the West coast.

Unexpected Fun …!
We headed over to the south Teno mountains today. It was so good to be “proper” walking again and the 21 degrees temperature was perfect. Albeit the occasional rock climbing, narrow ridge negotiations and sudden gale-force gusts of wind were a little unexpected …!

Teno Out of Ten …!
Due to the cloying summer heat, and the small matter of moving all our goods and chattels from the south-east of the island to the west coast, it’s 6 weeks since we’ve been up in the hills on a rural hike. Today’s breezy walk above El Molledo, on the southern flanks of the Teno Mountains, was a particularly spectacular reminder of what we’ve been missing …

Walk (42) Playa de San Juan-Alcala Linear (Guia de Isora)
This pleasant linear walk connects the pretty promenades and harbour areas of Playa de San Juan and Alcalá. This route is an excellent choice in summer when more demanding hikes are not advised. You can take a very short trip on the Titsa bus to return to your starting point …

Como Una Virgen …
Our short, coastal walk to Alcalà earlier today found us in the midst of a visit to the town by the Virgen del Carmen and her entourage from neighbouring Puerto Santiago …   Her next stop was Playa San Juan – perhaps we should have asked for a lift back with her. The guagua 473 did the needful though …

Checking out Chio …
We visited Chio for the first time yesterday to check out the start of a planned circular walk. The calima we’re experiencing doesn’t seem as intense here in the west as on the south coast but, still, everything looks a little washed-out …!
