Mostly on rough roads, with easy ascents and descents, this return walk provides fascinating and often awe-inspiring landscapes in all directions. At the mid-point we visit the closed-up and intriguing El Sanatorio buildings hidden away in the middle of the National Park.

(59) Las Vegas-Pino del Haba-El Seco Circular (Granadilla)

Route Summary
Leaving the pretty village of Las Vegas this walk first follows the old Camino de Las Vegas, then a rough rural road to an old water mill. Crossing a hugely scenic barranco we encounter a partly ruined goat farm at El Seco where there are spectacular views of the Barranco del Rio, before a very pleasant return through open pines and terraces.

(58) Tijoco Alto-Casa Icerse Circular (Adeje)

Route Summary
Mostly in pine forest, but with opportunities for great views, this is an interesting walk with almost 400m overall ascent, to the desolate finca at Icerse, almost 1,300m above sea level, looking down on Taucho, just off a rough road that eventually reaches the Teide National Park.

(57) Chio-Chiguergue Circular (Guia de Isora)

Route Summary
A short, if at times strenuous, walk, taking different outward and return routes on ancient paths between the old settlements of Chio and Chiquergue in Guia de Isora. Great rural, coastal and mountain views complement the charm of many old buildings encountered along the way.

(56) La Quinta-Aponte-Aserradero Circular (Adeje)

Route Summary
An invigorating walk with almost 400 metres overall ascent, that takes in the rural terraces and vineyards around Taucho, high above Adeje, before entering a delightful wooded barranco, returning through the beautiful but fire-scarred pine forest near the Casa Aserradero.

(55) Villa de Arico-Teguedite Circular (Arico)

Route Summary
A short circular walk from the interesting old town of Villa de Arico on an old Camino Real and on minor roads. It provides an intimate experience of rural activity around an old Canarian hill town. Great views of wide-open landscapes too.

(54) Los Poleos-Views of Montana Chinyero Circular (Santiago del Teide)

Route Summary
This is a fairly undemanding walk in a unique natural environment where life flourishes despite the depredations of fairly recent volcanic eruptions and forest fires. Great views of Montaña Chenyero, El Teide, and the southern flank of the Teno Mountains.

(53) Tajao-Barranco de Vijigua (Arico)

Route Summary
This short walk is based in the pleasant fishing village of Tajao, set within striking and unusual rock formations between El Medano and La Jaca on the east coast. At a mid-point in the walk there is a very large and evocative stone arch. Tremendous coastal views.

(52) Arguayo-Las Manchas-La Hoya Circular (Santiago del Teide)

Route Summary
A varied and strenuous hike to Las Manchas and back on old stony “caminos” taking in rural terraces, pine trees and lava fields. Great views to Teide and of the southern Teno Mountains. The last 2 kilometres involve an impressive traverse of La Hoya, above the El Bicho tunnels.

(51) Vera de Erques-Las Fuentes Return (Guia de Isora)

Route Summary
A great return walk up to the pretty hamlet of Las Fuentes, abandoned by its residents in the 1970s. We walk from the hill village of Vera de Erques, which is decked in flowers all year round. The paths are rough and stony but the walk is a hugely satisfying all round experience.

(50) Ifonche-Fuente de las Pilas Circular (Adeje)

Route Summary
This is a very pleasant walk in the rural setting of Ifonche heading out to a charming and verdant spring in the depths of Barranco del Rey. The surrounding volcanic mountains and barrancos provide a jaw-dropping backdrop at a number of places throughout the walk.
