On a bright day there are great coastal and mountain views on this “there and back” route from little known east-coast settlement of La Jaca to the popular seaside town of Abades. The paths can be very rough and the steep ups and downs, in places, are a test of stamina.

This fairly strenuous walk is described as moderate to hard because of the tricky and demanding section crossing Barranco Ramallo (see walk Description). Otherwise, a fine walk on old paths, with great open views. El Jaral and Guia de Isora are both attractive and interesting places.

A varied and strenuous hike to Las Manchas and back on old stony “caminos” taking in rural terraces, pine trees and lava fields. Great views to Teide and of the southern Teno Mountains. The last 2 kilometres involve an impressive traverse of La Hoya, above the El Bicho tunnels.
