This is an enjoyable walk in the rural landscape above the historic town of Arona. A fairly steep ascent of 350 m is followed by a level traverse with wonderful views down to the coast. An ancient shrine kicks off a very scenic descent through terraced farmland.

Description
The first section of this interesting and varied walk involves a continuous ascent, at times with steep inclines, as it rises from the historic centre of Arona at just over 600 m above sea level to over 950 m. The rewards are marvellous views of Roque del Conde and Roque Imoque and down to the resorts on the south coast. At the time of writing the whole area is amazingly green with new growth after winter rains. During the walk there are many reminders of the importance of this area for agriculture, both historically and in current times. Before beginning the descent to the outskirts of the village of Tunéz the walk passes the shrine “Capilla Cristo de Tacoronte”. Apparently, after the Spanish Conquest this was a resting place for funeral parties carrying the dead from the Arona area to the only nearby consecrated ground at the time, in Vilaflor. The walk is partly on quiet country roads and partly on rough and stony old caminos.
